LakeXpress ADA Transition Plan Public Hearing

LEESBURG - A public hearing for the Lake County Public Transportation Division, American Disabilities Act Transition Plan is scheduled for Monday, November 5, 2012, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Leesburg Public Library, 100 East Main Street, 1st floor Public Meeting Room B, Leesburg, FL.

The Lake County Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board (TDCB) in coordination with Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) staff will oversee the implementation and policy review for American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance in our area. The TDCB serves as the ADA Advisory Committee for the Public Transportation system in Lake County.

The ADA Transition Plan outlines how the Lake County Public Transportation Division (LCPTD) is implementing the ADA for their LakeXpress Public Transportation System. The purpose of the public hearing is to gather feedback and suggestions on the plan and to assist in the identification and implementation of needed accommodations moving forward. The plan is anticipated to be approved by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners later this year.

The proposed plan is divided into four sections:

Section 1: Provides accessibility requirements set forth at the Federal and State levels;
Section 2: Explains the approach the LCPTD is taking towards ADA compliance;
Section 3: Describes the barrier removal prioritization; and
Section 4: Lays out the implementation and financial plan for the removal of identified
barriers.

LCPTD will use available Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funds to implement the plan, removing barriers and promoting accessibility for stops and shelters in the LakeXpress system. Lake County will also look to municipalities served by the LakeXpress system to assist in the process of providing and updating the necessary connecting sidewalks and bike lanes to access the system. The project prioritizations listed in this plan should guide the County and the municipalities in the goal to eliminate barriers to access at LakeXpress shelter and bus stop locations throughout the system.

It is anticipated that a completion date for all work related and detailed in this transition plan will be completed within a 36 month period with an end date of December 2016. The ADA Transition Plan is available on the Lake-Sumter MPO website at www.LakeSumterMPO.com and is also available by hard copy, and large print if requested. For a copy of the ADA Transition Plan or to submit written comment, contact the Lake~Sumter MPO at 1616 South 14th Street, Leesburg, FL 34748 or call (352) 315-0170.

Public comment can be made in person or in a written format at the public hearing. Even though the public hearing marks the end of this public comment period, suggestions and feedback are welcome at any time. The public is invited and encouraged to attend the open meetings of the Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board or any of the other advisory committees of the Lake-Sumter MPO.
