LEESBURG –The Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is currently seeking applicants to serve on the Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board (TDCB).
Interested Sumter County residents are appointed by the MPO Governing Board. The purpose of the TDCB is to identify local transportation needs and to provide information, advice, and direction to Sumter County on the coordination of services to be provided to the transportation disadvantaged population in the county. The TDCB consists of individuals representing the local and state governmental agencies as well as a cross section of the local community.
Who are the transportation disadvantaged? People who are unable to transport themselves or purchase needed transportation because of physical or mental disability, income status or age are considered transportation disadvantaged. This leaves them dependent upon others to obtain access to healthcare, employment, education, shopping, social activities or life-sustaining activities.
The TDCB meets quarterly, on Tuesday afternoons, at the Sumter County BCC Chambers, Bushnell, FL. Transportation can be provided to and from the meetings for those needing assistance. If you are interested in local transportation issues and you feel you are a good candidate to fill the vacant position listed below, please contact Michael Woods at (352) 315-0170 or email@example.com for an application or to just discuss this volunteer opportunity.
- A person over sixty years of age representing the elderly in the county.
