Governor Crist approves Lake-Sumter MPO re-designation to include Sumter County
On October 22, Governor Charlie Crist approved the Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization’s (MPO) request for re-designation to include all of Sumter County and its five municipalities. In his approval letter to MPO's Chair, the Honorable Sanna Henderson, Governor Crist commended the MPO for its efforts to effectively engage both counties before the re-designation was requested and also for recognizing that traffic congestion does not stop at the county line.

MPO Governing Board Adopts Transportation 2035
The Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Governing Board today approved the final version of Transportation 2035, taking a major step forward towards the implementation of a new transportation plan for the next 25 years. The goals, objectives, and strategies set out in the plan seek to meet the future mobility needs of the residents and visitors of the region while serving as a road map to achieve the community’s vision for growth and transportation across the region.

Green Symposium to Feature Green - or Orange - Transportation
Many green initiatives will be presented at the second annual Lake County Green Symposium.
One of them will be a green transportation initiative that is actually orange. The Orange
Blossom Express is a passenger rail concept that could lead to commuter rail service from Lake
County to SunRail in the Orlando metropolitan area.

Transportation 2035 Public Workshop #2, the Needs Plan

Florida Bicycle Association, Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Awards Presented to Two Lake County Law Enforcement Officers
At the regularly scheduled meeting of the Governing Board of the Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) George Martin, Bicycle Law Training Program Director, Florida Bicycle Association, presented awards to Deputy Gabriel White and Sergeant Thomas McKane.

Lake-Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization Hosts Transporation 2035 Workshop
The Lake~Sumter Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) hosted a public workshop
for TRANSPORTATION 2035. The room was filled by over 80 workshop attendees including
members of the MPO Governing Board and its advisory committees, Elected Officials, City and
County administrators and staff, state transportation agencies and other interested parties and local residents.
